“I usually think of myself as a contrarian, but from time to time, for the sake of inspiration, I find it important to experience a cliche. With this in mind, I put on my mid-October tourist hat, and along with my POLAROID ONE 600 and several packs of PX 680 Color Shade film I took to the road.”
Scott Achs, a 2011 NESOP graduate, recently had his work published in Here in Hanover Magazine’s Summer 2012 Edition. Using medium format color film, Scott shot a series of swimmers enjoying popular Vermont swimming holes to escape the heat last summer.

Sarah and Richard got married on a cold and snowy/rainy day in late March on Martha’s Vineyard. It was a ceremony with an attendance of a bride, groom, justice of the peace, photographer, and the Hob Knob Inn keeper. Prior to the ceremony they played an intense game of checkers then after the vowels were exchanged they ventured out into the pouring rain with umbrella’s in hand.

Scott Achs – Second Year, Term 2 Work
Jose Villa’s style as a wedding photographer is very inspirational to my engagement work. Working with medium format film is a wonderful fulfilling process. I will incorporate this style of imagery into my wedding business once I graduate NESOP.

I am inspired by snow, the more the better. When I see snow my immediate reaction is to go out in it and take pictures. I shot this handheld on a medium format Hasselblad for myself as it is my interpretation of what I love about snow and New England. If someone looks at these and is slightly inspired to go out and enjoy what most people despise then it serves a purpose for inspiration.
Jeff Browse, Tim Davis, with a touch of Stephen Shore, a splash of Avedon, and Jose Villa are massive influences on me. So great!
