NESOP Instructor / Alum Amy Giese to Speak at SPE ’13

NESOP instructor and ’06 graduate Amy Giese is scheduled to speak at the 2013 SPE Conference on March 9th, celebrating 50 years of SPE.

In “Shadows Stilled, Seized, Lost”, Giese will discuss the development of the process for her project “Concealed at first at last I appear”, a series of unique silver gelatin skiagrams, as well as explore the historical and contemporary context of the work and future ideas for developing the ongoing project.

“I create camera-less images to investigate my relationship to the physical space I exist in and how the chemical process of photography is still important in advancing our theoretical understanding of the photographic medium.” – Amy Theiss Giese

Alumni Profile: Philip Habib

For the November / December 2012 edition of American Photo Magazine, Philip Habib (NESOP ’81) takes a peek into Greek life on campus as part of his series ‘The Future of America‘.

“What interests me most,” Habib says, “is that some of the top leaders in this country— Presidents, CEOs—come from fraternities. This lack of inhibition is an integral moment in those lives.” Seeing it, he adds, “makes it easier to imagine public figures in their underwear.”

Alumni Profile: David Butler

David Butler graduated from the NESOP Professional Photography Program in 2008 and has spent the last 3 years based in Phoenix, AZ working as the Brand Photographer for skin care company philosophy.

In this role, David is responsible for all of their advertising images ranging from in-store display ads seen in Macy’s, Nordstrom and Sephora, to Magazine ads seen in Vogue, InStyle, People and Harper’s Bazaar, as well as any digital advertising.

“Attending NESOP was one of those critical life changing decisions for me, I am sure I am not the only graduate that feels this way.  I have been working night and day to make my dream come true since the second I enrolled at NESOP, and I have never really stopped working (luckily). There are many truly powerful forms of art, and I believe photography is up there with the most efficient mediums that communicate a message, story, emotion, and even sound and smell sometimes.   I am amazed and inspired everyday by the possibilities and potential one person and one camera contain.”
