Sarah and Richard got married on a cold and snowy/rainy day in late March on Martha’s Vineyard.  It was a ceremony with an attendance of a bride, groom, justice of the peace, photographer, and the Hob Knob Inn keeper. Prior to the ceremony they played an intense game of checkers then after the vowels were exchanged they ventured out into the pouring rain with umbrella’s in hand.

Tornado Aftermath in Ringgold, GA

Ryan McBride – Year 2, Term 3 Work
Blog: www.mcbridephotography.wordpress.com

April 28th, 2011 Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee were hit with multiple tornados. All were in the range of EF3 to EF5 speeds, the worst speeds for a tornado. April was a record month, with over 600 tornados. I went down to Ringgold, GA, a small town in North Georgia just below the Tennessee border where a EF4 destroyed the town. It continued into Cherokee Valley killing 8 people and wounding others. But this town is not broken and the people remain strong as ever. What I witnessed down there was tragic, overwhelming, heart wrenching and beautiful all at the same time. It changed how I thought and feel about many things about Georgia and it’s people and the strength our people have when situated with a devastating loss.

(Guatemala, CA)- At this dump outside of Antigua, this is a way of survival for families to scrap recyclable items to survive. This is their daily living situation.

As a part of Ryan’s 1st place prize, he will  have the unique opportunity to intern in the studio of award winning documentary photographer James Nachtwey.  He has also been awarded Adobe CS5 and a selection of photography books from SPD’s sponsor relationships with Abrams, Aperture,  D.A.P., and Powerhouse. Captured Reflections

Rebecca Gutwin – Year 2, Terms 1 & 2
Website: www.rebeccakphotography.com

My recent fine art work combines the intersection of real spaces and reflected spaces.  Each dream-like photograph is found as I walk though neighborhoods and commercial centers, as if window shopping.  In each image, the viewer sees the objects behind the glass as well as the reflected, surrounding world.  Driven by consumerism, this intersection of two worlds is usually seen but not noticed.  While the sought after object may not be fulfilling (visually and in life), its combination with reflections from the outside world creates a new and beautiful reality.

Jose Villa’s style as a wedding photographer is very inspirational to my engagement work. Working with medium format film is a wonderful fulfilling process. I will incorporate this style of imagery into my wedding business once I graduate NESOP.
