Maine Interiors – Dreams of Home
Website: www.annieclaflin.com/photography/dreams-of-home/

I began making images of my family, our home and the surrounding landscape in Maine over a decade ago. My interior photographs often abstract space, using lines, shapes and light patterns to define the composition. This body of work is motivated by dreams I have about home while I am away. In these dreams, I see only small details of my family’s home, but even the tiniest view of a specific texture or form evokes familiarity and comfort.

These images are dear to me not only because they remind me of home, but also because this home is threatened by erosion of the beach that tenuously supports it. Over the past thirty years, the ocean has crept closer and closer to the home I’ve known all my life. At high tide, waves now lap at the rock wall protecting our house from the sea. At some unknown future date, the pictures I have made of my family’s home will be all I have to remember it. I dream about these interiors moments before a wave floods their surfaces.
